7th World Potato Congress, Something to think about……

The 7th World Potato Congress in Christchurch, NZ, offers all of this and much, much more!
 
Speaking of a great deal, have you checked out the currency rate for New Zealand lately? Your dollar, or pound, or euro, or yen, will go much further than ever in this fantastic country.
 
More than 450 people from 40 countries have registered for the event.
 
Special groups include a NZ Aid tour bringing scientists from across South America, and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and WPC Inc., bringing growers and scientists from developing nations around the world. From Australia a number of tour groups of growers and merchants, plus growers, merchants and processors from Britain, USA, Italy, Israel, India, Netherlands, South Africa, China, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Argentina and Canada. 
 
Most popular events include the Jet Thrills and BBQ dinner, the Black Cat Lyttleton Harbour Cruise dinner, the South Island Agricultural Field Days, the Soil Diseases Technical Workshop and the 7th WPC Golf Classic Tournament.
 
With the theme ‘Nourishing Our Future’, the Congress will review the latest world developments in crop management, environmental and energy issues, food and non-food processing, consumer trends and food safety and quality.
 
Topics that will be explored include:
·         the implications for the potato industry of ever-rising standards of food safety and quality assurance
·         the impact of climate change on the potato industry
·         the future of potatoes as a bio-fuel
·         soil-borne diseases
·         changing consumer tastes and what this means for fresh and processed potatoes
·         improving the nutritional value and reputation of processed potatoes
 
There will be plenty of time for networking, socializing and sight-seeing, with several optional tours and events available, including the traditional golf tournament scheduled for Sunday the 22nd of March, as well as jet boating, a harbour cruise and a gondola ride.
