Cygnet Potato Breeders Ltd is the seed potato division of a family owned group of Agricultural Companies (Alexander Harley Seeds Ltd). Based in Scotland Cygnet PB operates the largest potato breeding program in the UK on sites in Scotland and Cambridge. Cygnet PB owns the Plant Variety Rights to several important varieties including: - Bambino, Bonnie, Cabaret, Carlingford, Casablanca, Rubesse, Rocket, Saxon, Navan and Isle of Jura. It has a network of international agents who produce and sell these varieties locally under licence these include Canada, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. These new varieties offer superior genetics in terms of yield, disease resistance, and processing characteristics that have been developed during the last 70 years. A significant part of the program is devoted to producing French fry processing varieties. Cygnet PB has it’s own mini-tuber production system, GenTech, which was one of the first systems worldwide and has operated successfully since 1987. Mini-tubers have been exported to several overseas countries. Cygnet PB are also growers of high grade Scottish basic seed potatoes. Exports are made to a number of EU and non EU countries for input seed use or table production. |

The Prince Edward Island Potato Board represents the 360+ potato growers in the province, working together to ensure long term profitability and sustainability through marketing, lobbying, negotiations and activities to support quality seed, tablestock and processing potato production. We are Canada’s largest potato producing province, with approximately 25 percent of total Canadian production and approximately 30 percent of total seed potato production. About one half of all seed potato growers in Canada farm in PEI. Our seed and tablestock potatoes are sold in more than 30 countries around the world. Close to sixty percent of our crop is now produced specifically for processing into french fries, potato chips, dehydrated potato granules and other value-added products.

The company is involved in breeding, growing, collecting, processing and marketing 650.000 tons of potatoes. The agriculture industry is the single largest contributor to the economy of Prince Edward Island. The mandate of the Department of Agriculture is to promote the growth of sustainable and prosperous farming enterprise, and thereby increase the economic impact of the industry. The department provides a range of programs and services to broaden and diversify the industry, support innovation and encourage value-added opportunities. Providing quality advice and assistance to producers is a top priority for the department.

The core business of HZPC is the breeding, growing and marketing of seed potatoes. HZPC is one of the worlds largest private seed potato companies. Approximately 80 % of the sales are export sales, accounting for more than 40 % of the annual Dutch export volume.
To support the core seed potato business HZPC also markets ware potatoes. In this way the protected varieties of HZPC are promoted within the supermarket chains.

Ag World Support Systems (AWSS), a family owned potato inspection company, headquartered in Moses Lake WA, began service to the potato industry in 1997. Currently Ag World Support Systems provides potato inspection services to plants in the United States and Canada. As potatoes change ownership from the grower to the processor, AWSS inspects a sample of the potatoes being delivered. Tests are performed based on the contractual agreement signed by the grower and the processor. Dollars are then paid based on these test results. Additional quality tests may also be conducted to assist in the processing plant operations.
